When Sarah and her Cohearts arrived for early for work at Chicago Midway (MDW) one morning, they noticed a large group of young scouts who seemed to be stuck at the airport after a large weather system had rolled through the night before, causing several cancellations. As Sarah spoke to one of the group's adult chaperones, she learned what the problem was: among the 67 scouts, there were only 5 adult leaders, and there wasn’t a way to rebook such a large group without splitting up kids from their leaders. As a mother, Sarah knew just how stressful it must be for the parents of these scouts, who still didn’t know how, when, or with whom their kids might make it home. So, as our other Employees continued to work with the leaders on flight options, Sarah contacted her Cohearts behind the scenes at our regional Command Center and our Network Operations Control to see if they could throw together a special solution for this unique problem. After a few hours of back and forth, teamwork, and several strokes of luck, Sarah was able to deliver the good news to the scouts. They happened to have an extra airplane at MDW that day, and our Crew Scheduling Team was able to find a Crew to fly it straight to the group's home - Salt Lake City! They would all get to go home in one straight shot together! After some hugs, tears, smiles, (and a group picture, of course), the group boarded their flight and made it home safely. Although this kind of solution is almost never possible, we’re grateful for the #SouthwestHeart of Sarah and the countless other Southwest Employees who refused to give up on getting this group of scouts home together.
