The one saving grace to this awful story is that as we were leaving, a lady stopped us who was sitting a few feet from our table and witnessed the entire exchange. She had tears in her eyes and told us how appalled she was by the old man’s behavior and how sorry she was that he acted that way toward us. She completely validated and supported us. Her kindness and compassion helped offset the nastiness of the old man’s aggression. We just wanted to take our son out for a birthday treat. We just wanted to celebrate and be left alone. It broke my heart that this happened on Judah’s birthday. It makes me fear for the future and mentally I am geared up to respond more aggressively if anything like this happens again. I will be getting photo evidence next time. I hope there isn’t a next time.
