Yesterday, 61 Stop Cop City activists were indicted by the State of Georgia on fabricated racketeering and conspiracy charges. Most of the defendants were hit with domestic terrorism charges earlier this year. This indictment is not only an alarming escalation of political repression, but also an attempt to criminalize our most basic liberatory values. It’s fascism at work.
 Amongst charges of making zines and buying glue, the prosecutors accuse the Stop Cop City movement of promoting values like “collectivism, mutual aid, and social solidarity.” The indictment condemns “the idea of human altruism,” “protecting the environment” and everyday people taking care of one another. These are literally the bedrock values of the solidarity economy and all of our movements for collective liberation.  Prosecutors trace the origins of the Stop Cop City to the 2020 uprisings – making it clear the indictment and the training center itself are part of the violent backlash against movements for Black liberation and racial justice.  They say that Cop City will “better train police to deal with Atlanta's increase in violence while also training law enforcement in de-escalation techniques that avoid unnecessary violence.” This is cop talk for police reform. We know that abolition, “collectivism, mutual aid, and social solidarity” are the only ways to ensure public safety in our communities.
 These strategies aren’t new, but the charges are a warning of what’s to come in this growing wave of authoritarian repression of social movements.
