[Community First Responder Commended for Saving a Life] On the morning of 16 Jul 2023, Mr Patrick Cheong was driving to work when he received an alert on the myResponder app notifying him of a case of cardiac arrest at Block 10, Chai Chee Road. Without hesitation, he acknowledged the alert and responded to the location. Upon arrival, he found a lady suffering from cardiac arrest inside a residential unit and her husband was performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on her. Mr Patrick immediately rendered assistance to the lady by using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that he had retrieved from a nearby block. Three shocks were administered to the patient using the AED. Mr Patrick and the patient's husband continued CPR until the arrival of SCDF's Emergency Medical Services. Thanks to Mr Patrick's lifesaving actions, the patient survived and is alive today. Today (8 Sep), Mr Patrick was presented with the SCDF Community Lifesaver Award. The award was presented by COL Chew Keng Tok, Commander, 2nd SCDF Division. The patient attended the presentation and expressed her gratitude to Mr Patrick in person. As SCDF commemorates World First Aid Day tomorrow (9 Sep), Mr Patrick's actions serves as a stellar example that anyone can help to save a life and demonstrate the importance of first aid in a medical emergency.
