5 cups of cooked rice is ~230 grams of carbohydrates.. your brain requires 130 grams of carbs each day even if you are 100% sedentary. For most healthy adults who are not sedentary, you need AT LEAST 230ish grams of carbs each day to avoid fatigue, brain fog, and malnutrition, and to support metabolic and hormonal health. If you exercise, you need MORE than this. Every single living cell in your body has a receptor for glucose (end product of carbohydrate metabolism). Your body is not designed to live on low carb diets. Your body is not designed to live on ketones. Your body is designed to function best with constant, adequate nourishment from all food groups. If you eat from all food groups, including dairy, legumes, fruits, and vegetables, this still leaves the equivalent of ~ 3 full cups of cooked rice “worth of carbs” needed for the day. This may 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘮 like a lot. But it’s not. Think about how many carbohydrates you might consume during a binge episode. A package of chips ahoy cookies contains 242g of carbohydrates. If you find yourself bingeing a few days a week as a result of restriction, you can see it is your body’s desperate attempt at replenishing what it 𝙍𝙀𝙌𝙐𝙄𝙍𝙀𝙎 to 𝙎𝙐𝙍𝙑𝙄𝙑𝙀. I know in our low carb world, 230 grams seems like a lot but it really only equates to 920 calories. You still need more than 1,000 other calories for the day!
