When Maci Halliwill was 15 years old, she lost her mom to suicide. Maci was always described growing up as someone thoughtful and empathetic, but this tragic event made her want to help others even more and work in behavioral health. Maci is currently a team member at Corewell Health working as a medical assistant and going to school to become a social worker. “I believe in being a safe and open person with a listening ear to bring someone that comfort they need to discuss the struggles they are going through,” Maci said. “My experiences have made me a great person for this population of people.” She honors her mom daily by being kind, speaking of her and spreading suicide prevention awareness. “September is an important month to spread awareness because it’s an entire month dedicated to those struggling and those who’ve lost their lives. This is the time to target the audiences that need this the most,” Maci said. “There is always someone out there who can relate. Share your story to help others or get the help you need.
