Disconnecting from our bodies during/after trauma is a brilliant protective instinct. It’s often a barrier to healing as well, and one that can be very scary to address. If we want to heal from what happened, eventually we need to go back to where the trauma happened—our bodies. No matter where in the outside world we had a traumatic experience, or whether the trauma was physical or emotional, it registered for us in our bodies. Does it make sense not to want to go back there? Absolutely. And for this reason, reconnecting very, very slowly is helpful. If you’ve been living life in your head, it’s OK to stay there as long as you need to. Your body isn’t going anywhere, and you might need more time, more safety or more support to go there. That makes sense too. 💛 . . . . . . #cptsd #complextraumarecovery #childhoodtrauma #childhoodtraumarecovery #complextrauma #ptsdrecovery #healingtrauma #dissociation #dissociate #dissociated #inmyhead #overthinking #analysisparalysis
