Why birth photography from an experienced photographer is usually a minimum of a £2K investment? If you are ever questioning what to charge as a birth photographer or what to pay one, just take these into account: ✨On-call time - average 3 weeks 24/7 - no traveling, always in phone reception, bags packed, childcare in place, all plans or apps can be changed last minute. Life revolves around being available for your client. ✨Prenatal connection visits - minimum of 1 in person session averaging 4-5 hours total with travel. ✨Insurance - usually £1-2K per year ✨Equipment - usually a minimum of £5K+ invested in equipment and constantly being updated, and serviced. ✨Birth physiology training, other mentoring or coaching - always being updated with training and courses. ✨Additional backup childcare - usually averaging £50-100+ per day or night for last minute care sometimes paying for someone to also be on call. ✨Backup photographer - paid weekly or monthly if on call too or on an hourly basis if called in. ✨Therapy/debriefing - £50-100 per session Remember this when you are costing your birth photography services or asking a birth photographer (or doula) for a discount.
