Trial to reverse desertification using termites 🪳 About two years ago we started working with researchers in Benin, West Africa, to find solutions to the high rates of desertification they are experiencing in the country. We turned our attention to termites because they are incredible ecosystem engineers that increase water and nutrient retention in the soil and play a key role in making the savannah resilient to drought. The idea is to explore ways of using termites as an ecological restoration tool. The first phase of the project is well underway but we already moving on to phase 2, which involves running a carefully designed trial.
