We can not limit suicide awareness to only one month. Not talking about suicide only reinforces the idea that it’s not okay to talk about - and that’s the truth. You can’t brush it under the rug and keep it a hush hush topic. The reality is we lose hundreds and thousands of lives a year worldwide to suicide. It’s not as uncommon as you think it is. And no it doesn’t only happen to celebrities (because that’s when we hear about it ‘most’). If you haven’t had thoughts about it, odds are someone you know has, or attempted or even lost their life too. We have to keep talking about it. We have to have better systems in place. We have to stop criminalizing those who are having thoughts and treating them less than. If you are having thoughts of suicide, please know that this world is not better off without you. Your brain is lying to you. You are loved. You are worthy of life.
