Strawberry Crumble Bars 🍓 - lower sugar! ad 😋 I love something sweet with my morning coffee and these strawberry squares are delicious. Each bite contains nutrients and fibre from the fruit & oats, and you can even use a natural non-sugar sweetener in the crumble part too to make this dessert lower in sugar, which is ideal for those wanting to reduce their sugar intake. For more information on non-sugar sweeteners, and how they can be used in the diet to help reduce your free sugar intake, check out the Sweeteners Resource Centre on the @britsoftdrinks website (free sugars include any added sugars and those naturally occurring in honey and fruit juice; as adults we should be having less than 30g a day), PS As always, remember the 80/20 rule - moderation not deprivation when it comes to sweeter desserts! INGREDIENTS 👩🏻🍳 Crumble: (for base and crumble on top) ✔️ 125g plain flour ✔️ 125g oats ✔️ 100g butter or coconut oil ✔️ 75g sugar or alternative - I like xylitol in baking as it’s kind to teeth too Strawberry layer: ✔️ 250g strawberries 🍓 ✔️ Juice of 1/2 lemon 🍋 ✔️ 1 tbsp cornstarch ✔️ 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup METHOD ⬇️ 1️⃣ Preheat the oven to 180c and line a baking tray with baking parchment. 2️⃣ Chop the strawberries into quarters and add to a saucepan along with the lemon juice, honey and cornstarch. Stir to combine. 3️⃣ Heat on a medium heat (add a splash of water if needed) for 5-10 minutes until you have a chunky jam like consistency. 4️⃣ Add the oats, flour and sugar alternative to a mixing bowl before adding the butter (chop into chunks beforehand). 5️⃣ Use your finger tips to rub the dry ingredients into the butter to form a chunky breadcrumb like mixture. 6️⃣ Add half the crumble mixture to the lined baking tray and press down with the back of a spoon (or finger tips) to create a solid base. 7️⃣ Next, add the strawberry mixture on top, followed by the rest of the crumble mixture, spread lightly on top. 8️⃣ Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown on top.
