PSALM 23:4 Once and for all, an accurate translation of the most famous, highly misunderstood, often quoted psalm of all psalms: (1) A psalm of David: מִזְמ֥וֹר לְדָוִ֑ד I lack nothing, for G-D is my shepherd: ה׳ רֹ֝עִ֗י לֹ֣א אֶחְסָֽר (2) HE lets me lie down in pastures of grass: בִּנְא֣וֹת דֶּ֭שֶׁא יַרְבִּיצֵ֑נִי HE leads me to peaceful waters: עַל־מֵ֖י מְנֻח֣וֹת יְנַהֲלֵֽנִי (3) HE restores my spirit: נַפְשִׁ֥י יְשׁוֹבֵ֑ב HE walks me in righteous paths (circles) for HIS sacred name: יַֽנְחֵ֥נִי בְמַעְגְּלֵי־צֶ֝֗דֶק לְמַ֣עַן שְׁמֽוֹ (4) Even though I may pass through a valley shadowed by death: גַּ֤ם כִּֽי־אֵלֵ֨ךְ בְּגֵ֪יא צַלְמָ֡וֶת I fear no harm: לֹא־אִ֘ירָ֤א רָ֗ע for YOU are with me: כִּי־אַתָּ֥ה עִמָּדִ֑י YOUR Rod [ to discipline ] and Your Staff [to guide]: שִׁבְטְךָ֥ וּ֝מִשְׁעַנְתֶּ֗ךָ shall grant me comfort: הֵ֣מָּה יְנַֽחֲמֻֽנִי (5) YOU set a table for me in the presence of my defeated enemies: תַּעֲרֹ֬ךְ לְפָנַ֨י שֻׁלְחָ֗ן נֶ֥גֶד צֹרְרָ֑י YOU have anointed my head with Kingship oil: דִּשַּׁ֥נְתָּ בַשֶּׁ֥מֶן רֹ֝אשִׁ֗י YOU have overfilled my goblet: כּוֹסִ֥י רְוָיָֽה (6) Nothing but goodness and mercy shall pursue me all my days: אַ֤ךְ ט֤וֹב וָחֶ֣סֶד יִ֭רְדְּפוּנִי כׇּל־יְמֵ֣י חַיָּ֑י indeed, I shall dwell in the House of G-D for long life: וְשַׁבְתִּ֥י בְּבֵית־ה׳ לְאֹ֣רֶךְ יָמִֽים This compelling psalm envelops numerous layers of ancient wisdom that can greatly serve us in modern days. Notice how, at first, King David addresses G-D as "HE" (third person) shifts to "YOU" (second person) then completes full circle to "HE" again. Can you imagine what secret message the King David, ministered by the holy-spirit (רוח הקודש) was trying to convey to us?
