A couple more closeups of last weekend’s dress (see previous post for details) and to record a wet-set hairstyle win that lasted through a very windy afternoon! The hairstyle is not especially 1940s (many popular styles of the early 40s were either much longer or much shorter than this), but it’ll do OK-ish for late 30s to early 50s looks and works with my current hair length. I use a very fine matching hairnet to stop the back and sides dropping down over the day. A few people asked how I do my hair. I’m by no means terribly skilled, but I do a pin-curl wet set and sleep on it, it’s the only curl that lasts (my hair is super straight and every single other method [no hints please, I have tried them all] drops out after a few hours, whereas this will last several days if I pin it back up at night. Google ‘pin curl wet set’ or ‘1940s pin curls’ and you’ll find loads of tutorials. I also found a book called Vintage Hairstyling by Lauren Rennells very handy, no idea if it’s still in print. Lipstick is ‘Carmine’ by Besame, a replica of a colour from 1931. EDIT: before you comment about the jewellery in the second picture, have a think about how mirrors work, and also whether it’s appropriate to comment on the marital status of someone you don’t know on the internet… #1940s #1940sstyle #1940sfashion
