Someone I know’s minor child was placed in handcuffs in a VA middle school this week for using a restroom. We CANNOT be silent about this, even for a second. These policies are shameful. They’re designed to humiliate and dehumanize children…who do they *protect* and who do they *harm*? Cisgender people do not require protection from transgender people. A 12 year old is being handcuffed in a school for ANY reason it’s cause for alarm. The person I know is not the only one, others have already been arrested. Petition: please sign the petition (link in bio) and protect Virginia’s trans students and educators from abusive new policies. These policies involve intentional deadnaming/misgendering, reporting appropriate restroom use to school administrators, calling home if a student is suspected of being trans and apparently involve law enforcement. Remember when you share…trans people using the right name, pronouns and restrooms harms nobody. Trans children are victims of bullying, not perpetrators. These policies create a hostile school environment for EVERYONE and a dangerous environment for transgender children and school staff.
