Honeybees and Distant Thunders was a lyrical and delightful read. It was a book that accompanied me during my holiday trip and despite being on holiday, I could not help to pick up this book every day. This book was so good; it might be a bit too long, but overall, it was intriguing, and I became very immersed in the story. As someone who lacks knowledge about classical music and piano, I’m absolutely thrilled to read this book that focuses on those things. Honeybees and Distant Thunders shared a story about four main pianists who embark on their journey during an international piano competition. I felt very attached to each participant, even the judges, the tuner, and the stage manager. I like all the characters, as their back story and personalities are fascinating; it makes me rotted for them all. I like that they become friends, continually support each other even though they are rivals in the competition, and how they become better by knowing each other. I like the translated writing, it was so good, and I could feel the competitive and tense environment during the competition. The explanations about the sounds, music, and noise are so distinct, and I could feel it. Let me tell you that this book makes me want to go to an orchestra concert. May I listen to someone like Jin Kazama, Aya Eiden, Masaru, or Akashi Takashima, as described in the book? Overall, this book feels like a love letter to music and nature. Nature because you will be thinking about nature while reading about the descriptions of each sound by each participant 🫶🏻 Highly recommend it for those who want to know in depth about classical music and piano; however, please bear the slow-paced of the book.
