English follows Japanese. 【世界で活躍する防衛省・自衛隊：現地隊員の声をご紹介】 派遣海賊対処行動水上部隊　1等海尉　姉川優大 私はヘリコプターの操縦士として、護衛艦「ゆうだち」に乗艦しています。主な任務はアデン湾を航行する船舶の安全確保のため、ヘリコプターで空からパトロールをすることです。 私が海賊対処行動に参加するのは今回で2回目です。現在は慣れましたが、コロナ禍という、前回とは異なる状況に最初は少し戸惑いも感じました。 約半年という長期間の任務行動は過酷ではありますが、世界の海上輸送を守るという使命に、大きなやりがいを感じることができます。 また、時には護衛艦の近くで戯れるイルカの群れに遭遇したり、信じられないほどの満天の星空を見ることができたりという体験ができることは大きな魅力であり、ここでの生活を満喫しています。 I’m a helicopter pilot on board the destroyer JS Yudachi. My main duty is to patrol the Gulf of Aden by air in my helicopter to help ensure the safety of vessels sailing through. This is my second time joining an anti-pirate operation. I’ve gotten used to things now, but I felt a bit disoriented at first with how different the situation has been with COVID-19. I’m on a long-term operational assignment of about half a year which is grueling, but I get a great sense of fulfilment out of our mission to protect the world’s maritime transport.
