English follows Japanese. 【世界で活躍する防衛省・自衛隊：現地隊員の声をご紹介】 派遣海賊対処行動水上部隊　海士長 小森奨 私は護衛艦「ゆうぎり」の射撃員として、速射砲や重機関銃、各種小火器の保守整備、操作を担当しています。本行動区域は砂漠地帯であり、海上にまで砂煙が飛来するため入港時には丁寧な整備を心掛け、万全の態勢の維持に努めています。 一方、艦内生活では「食卓番」という食堂での配膳用意、食器の洗浄、片付けを行う当番があります。全員が食べ終わるまでの間、足りない食器を補充したり、返却された食器を洗浄するのは大変ですが、3、4人の食卓番同士が協力し合い、隊員たちがスムーズに食事ができるよう心掛けています。 娯楽の少ない艦内生活での大きな楽しみである食事をサポートする時間は、艦の一員として役立てていると感じられるひとときです。 As a gunner’s mate on the destroyer JS Yugiri, I’m in charge of maintaining and operating rapid-fire guns, heavy machine guns, and other small arms. The area we’re operating in is a desert climate where plumes of sand blow all the way out to sea, so we take care to be thorough in our upkeep when we enter port and work hard to maintain full readiness. Living on board, we have rotating “table duty” when you for prepare for food to be served, wash dishes, and clean up in the dining hall. It’s hard work restocking dishes when they run out and washing them when they’re returned all the way until everyone has finished eating, but the three or four people on table duty all work together to try to make mealtime go smoothly for all the other personnel. There’s not a lot of entertainment on the ship, so everyone really looks forward to mealtime.
