This is Aurora. It’s hard to tell by looking at her, but Aurora is homeless. She’s been residing in a shelter in Calgary where she has made great friends, but deserves a family of her own. She’s two years old and #adoptable Aurora got a lift to the mountains yesterday with one of said friends. She didn’t know why she was here but she was happy about it. After her hour+ commute from the city, she self-loaded into my car and we continued west another hour+. Aurora stood next to the driver (me) and surveyed the passing lands with a smile. She took a brief pause in sightseeing somewhere near the Banff townsite to go to the back of the car and throw up. By the time we reached the next pull off, she already had it cleaned up and was back to her surveying post beside me (still smiling but with a notable difference in breath). The rest of the drive passed uneventfully and we got out to hike. We started with a creek crossing where I got a full soaker (left foot) to start the hike. Aurora led at a human jog pace. Her head darted in different directions as an incomputable array of stimuli demanded her attention. She drank from the creek but didn’t wade. We hiked through a valley of boulders to a hidden waterfall. Aurora seemed impressed with the views, the snacks provided, and the constantly available running water. She sat for photos and explored the crevasse of the hidden falls before leading our descent. The most exciting thing out in the mountains for Aurora seemed to be the ubiquitous-but-elusive squirrel. She never did catch one but not for lack of trying. She looked most alive when she was on the great hunt. After accepting defeat on the hunt (no squirrels were hurt in the making of this adoption adventure), she self-loaded at the car and napped some of the way back to meet her buddy with whom she was catching a ride back to her shelter. Do you know someone who would love this sweet, happy adventure buddy? Aurora is available now from @arfalberta in Calgary. Thank you to the folks at @vca_canada. Each month they help me subject an additional adoptable to a home-finding photo adventure like this one. Sweet Aurora is August’s very deserving #onemorepup
