Not the news I wanted to be sharing with you today..😔 _ Zeus is in the early stages of Dilated Cardiomyopathy. When we did an Embark test on him a few years ago this did come up as an inherited variant. I notified my vet at the time and since then have always monitored his breathing. It’s part of the reason I think we caught this as early as we did. DCM is very common in Doberman’s not really many cases of APBT as far as I know. I could be wrong. _ I asked for a detailed report to be emailed to me and this is what they found, there is indeed two cardiac abnormalities and the vet confirmed that it isn’t a Grade 2/3 heart murmur, but a Grade 3. In addition to the myocardial dysfunction (this is me reading directly off the report) there is mild myxomatus changes to the mitral valve, likely exacerbating the murmur intensity and left atrial enlargement. _ When I read “congestive heart failure” on the report I become inconsolable. I of course got the news at a friends house and I was in utter disbelief as they told me at the vets office just hours prior that Zeus looked fine. They even said he probably won’t even need medication. I was relieved and even posted about it on here and Threads. I then got the terrible news shortly after. You should never assume something and then tell the patient what you **think** is correct 😡 _ My dad (Zeus’ grandpa) died of a congestive heart failure and reading those words again just sent me over the edge. My dad passed away just shy of three years ago but the pain never really leaves. _ The good news is there is no evidence of pulmonary hypertension and his blood pressure is normal. An electrocardiogram is recommended now as well as thoracic radiographs, blood analyses and blood pressure tests every 6 months. Zeus most likely will be on Pimobendan until further notice. His thyroid levels will be checked ASAP as well as his taurine levels. I will do everything and anything I have to do for this dog. I love him so fiercely and I will not give up on him. _ Please hug your dog a little tighter for us today as we never know how much time we have left with them ❤️ _ #dilatedcardiomyopathy #doghealth #handsomezeus #enjoyeverymoment
