'조선시대 책장 그림'이 있는 2023년 9월 달력 조선의 왕실이나 양반 집 사랑방에 있었을 것 같은 책장이 병풍 위에 그려졌습니다. 가지런히 쌓여있는 책들, 각종 문방구류, 향로와 골동품, 꽃가지가 꽂혀있는 화병 등 귀하고 아름다운 물건들이 책장을 채우고 있습니다. 이러한 그림을 책장 그림, 책가도(冊架圖)라고 합니다. 정교하게 그려진 각종 물건이 무얼까 궁금해 자꾸만 들여다보게 됩니다. 18세기부터 20세기 초까지 유행한 책가도 속 여러 물건은 선비의 고상한 취향뿐 아니라 부귀, 장수, 다산, 관운 등과 같은 현실적인 바람을 담고 있습니다. 책가도 병풍과 영상을 찬찬히 보시면서 진귀한 물건이 가득한 책장 그림을 곁에 두고 싶었던 선인들의 마음도 더불어 느껴보시길 바랍니다. The Story of Bookshelf Paintings from the Joseon Dynasty A bookshelf that could have been found at the Joseon royal court or in the men’s quarter at the house of yangban (the nobles) is straight ahead of us. This bookshelf is filled with precious beautiful objects, including books piled up in stacks, various writing utensils, incense burners, antiques, and vases with flower sprays. Such paintings are called chaekgado (bookshelf paintings). The meticulously delineated and colored objects spark viewers’ curiosity, drawing them back to the painting again and again. Chaekgado were paintings popular from the eighteenth through the early twentieth century. They embody the elegant tastes of scholars and their diverse, real-world desires like wealth, longevity, fecundity, and luck in their careers.
