화훼영모 오른쪽 제1폭부터 각각 게, 국화, 기러기, 매화 그림을 모은 4폭 병풍입니다. 게는 껍질인 갑(甲)이 과거시험의 1등인 갑과 발음이 같아 시험 합격이나 승진을, 기러기와 갈대를 그린 노안도(蘆雁圖)는 노년의 평안(老安)을 뜻합니다. 국화와 매화는 군자를 상징하는 꽃으로 문인의 절개, 아취 등을 의미합니다. 19세기 후반 이와 같은 길상적인 병풍에 대한 수요가 증가했습니다. 평양 출신의 서화가 양기훈은 특히 노안도, 묵매도를 잘 그렸는데 이 작품에서도 먹의 농담을 조절해 기러기나 게, 갈대를 생동감 있게 표현하는 그의 기량을 확인할 수 있습니다. This folding screen respectively presents a crab, chrysanthemums, geese, and plum blossoms across its four panels, starting from the right. Since a crab shell (gap) is pronounced the same as gap referring to first place in the state examination, crabs symbolize the passing of an examination or receiving a promotion. Paintings of geese and reeds mean peace in one’s later years. Chrysanthemums and plum blossoms represent learned gentlemen and epitomize the fidelity and elegance pursued by the literati. The demand for such auspicious folding screens increased in the late nineteenth century. The calligrapher and painter Yang Gihun from Pyeongyang excelled at paintings of geese and reeds and also of ink plum blossoms.
