Know where to place the stethoscope on the baby and the corresponding heart valves / sounds to help detect heart defects and murmurs. 💗AORTIC VALVE: Right upper sternal border (RUSB) is the aortic valve - just remember how the aorta leaves the heart..to the right! 💛PULMONIC VALVE: Left upper sternal border (LUSB) Pulmonary artery valve. Pulmonic stenosis and regurge causes same sound as aorta. 💚TRICUSPID VALVE: Left lower sternly border (LLSB) This area is for tricuspid valve for the entry of blood coming from the heart or S3. In babies the area detecting CHD or Congenital Heart defects such as Ebstein Anomaly or Tricuspid Atresia 💙MITRAL VALVE: also known as the Apex. Where blood comes in from the lungs. A harsh sound would indicate Mitral Stenosis occurring after S1/LUB.
