WHY I LEARNED MY BORDERCOLLIE TO LOVE THE BALL 👆 Yess Sia was not fond of balls and playing fetch. She occasionally chased a toy, but sadly she was more interested in chasing cars when we encountered them. So we worked on that on 2 fronts. One of them being that I tried to spark her interest in playing fetch. Once I sparked her interest she started loving the game slowly (she now has completely fallen in love). But why did I do that? I wanted to give her a different outlet of her chasing behavior. I talked about the components of working behavior before and Sia is mostly showing the chasing part. So I knew I needed to replace that for her. We can't (and shouldn't) supress our bordercollie's working behavior in my opinion. Rather we try to find them outlets which we can have fun with ourselves. We found that fetch was sufficient for her to stop showing unwanted chasing behavior (as 1 part, I already talked about the other part in previous videos). I get questions if balls don't spark an obsession in bordercollies. I don't think they do. It's a balancing act. Your bordercollie can love the ball without being obsessed. Absolutely! Obsession is a different kind of issue and is not caused by the ball itself. It stems from lack of mental stimulation in a lot of cases. So please let your bordercollie enjoy their fetchgame!
