Why original audio for gestalts? I’ll give you 3 reasons: 1️⃣ Gestalt language processors are much more intonationallt inclined than analytic language processors. So hearing/using the gestalt with original audio is important! “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” from Frosty the Snowman doesn’t have the same impact when spoken with digitized speech. 2️⃣ Original audio can help orient the child to their AAC device. If you’ve been modeling AAC for a while without progress or without the child increasing interest, try recording a gestalt button and see what happens. 3️⃣ It builds connection, trust, and shared enjoyment. Some of our kids aren’t quite ready for toy-play yet so leaning into giggles, smiles, and happy stims can be really pivotal.
