Meet PACO! Paco is the name Eme gave to her Eye Gaze machine. (I have no idea where it came from or how she picked it. I can’t remember. But it’s name is Paco!) Emery has locked in syndrome and can no longer speak to us. In order to communicate we just have to learn her cues and guess what she wants. As you can imagine it can be INCREDIBLY frustrating for her when we don’t understand what she’s trying to communicate. But now we have PACO. This amazing device is basically a large tablet with an eye gaze tracker attached to it. The tracker can pinpoint on the screen where she is looking and use a voice to say the word or phrase she is looking at. It has been amazing! This has been on of my favorite experiences—practicing it with music. She looks at the Alexa icon and then it takes her to a page with icons that match her favorite songs. Then Paco will speak for her and tell Alexa what she wants to hear. How amazing is that???
