Nut water is NOT inherently superior to cow’s milk. Just because a company slaps a “plant-based” label on a product does not mean it’s more health- or eco-conscious. Ultra-processed nut juices are NOT sustainable. The industrial techniques used to grow soybeans, oats, and almonds rip apart biodiverse ecosystems to maximize the area for crop production. These phony fluids also tend to be full of seed oils and gut irritants like carrageenan and other gums which are used to emulsify synthetic nutrients that are added due to the lack of actual nutrient density in this stomach-churning sludge. Almonds are especially atrocious. In some parts of California, where a whopping 80% of the world’s almonds are grown, some residents have lost access to drinking water largely because corporations continue to irrigate almonds and other crops. Yes, there are certainly issues in the meat and dairy industries. But we as humans can’t eliminate animals from our diets and food systems without consequence. Rather than hastily seeking out silly surface-level solutions like meat elimination, let’s work on making livestock production more ethical, sustainable, affordable, and accessible. And no, I don’t think that plant-based foods are inherently bad. The issue is that the “plant-based” label is currently being co-opted by large corporations under the guise of a Green agenda in order to push their profits. What do you think? Yes or No?
