ME TO ME RIGHT NOW: “It’s okay to be vulnerable… It’s okay to be vulnerable…” Here are 4 mistakes I made when I first started doing OCD/anxiety recovery as a therapist: 😶 I focused too much on exposures I put way too many of my eggs in the basket of exposures without focusing at all on the importance of ritual prevention. It wasn't until a few months in that I realized that the real purpose of an exposure is to practice ritual prevention. 😶 I didn't realize how REAL it felt I learned this the hard way when I got hit with postpartum OCD in 2018. I've always had anxious tendencies, and in hindsight definitely had OCD tendencies as well (helloooo doing everything in 3s so I didn't off one of the Hanson brothers) - but never anything that felt as real as when I had my son. Eeeeyikes. 😶 The exposures I did were just silly and made people anxious for the sake of making people anxious I thought exposures were just meant to make people anxious. I came up with generic exposures and didn't realize until later that they should be tied to their goals and values and be unique to the person. I learned that EVERY SINGLE PERSON should have a unique exposure list/hierarchy/fear ladder etc, even if they hypothetically have the same "subtype". 😶 I gave reassurance unknowingly This is a sneaky one, because reassurance can come in so many forms. AND as a therapist, you really have to find that balance of being supportive without accommodating/reassuring. But it's so important to make sure you're not giving into OCD - especially when it's hard. But you know… These have all been learning lessons I can share with you, so you can AVOID them, save time, and money. Oh! And most importantly, YOUR MENTAL HEALTH 🫠 And I’m going to share even more with you during my upcoming free training on "Overcoming Objections: Committing to OCD and Anxiety Recovery Once and For All" Want to snag your free seat to the free training? → DM me or comment below the word "OBJECTION" and I've got you covered. #ocdercovery #erptherapy #anxietyawareness #erptherapy #anxietydisorder
