Strength training should IMPROVE your mobility, not make it worse. Why? Because strength training is loaded stretching…which is exactly how you improve mobility. A few key principles to make that happen… ➡️ Train the fundamental movement patterns, in a balanced way (movements > muscles) ➡️ Move through ‘optimal’ ranges of motion (YOUR full range with flawless mechanics) ➡️ Challenge your muscles In their stretched positions (build end range strength) ➡️ Favor exercises that require stabilizing your own body (free weights > over machines). There is a lot of nuance to mobility training and a bit more to it than this. But if you re-structured your weight training to follow this guidance, you will start expanding your mobility, rather than degrade it over time. It will help you to become stronger, more muscular, move better and become pain-free.
