A group of artworks which evoked the splendor of the city of Rome under Urban VIII Barberini, Innocent X Pamphili, and Alexander VII Chigi, were highlighted on @Alessandra.DiCastro’s stand during TEFAF Maastricht 2023, its overall theme focusing on the Grand Tour sensibility. Highly representative of this period, and much in demand by Roman nobility, was Gaspar van Wittel, whose large-scale idealized landscape was on display during the fair. The dramatic beauty in the portrayal of aerial perspectives, classical architecture, and sweeps of color, are all quintessential characteristics of the Grand Tour period. The remarkable painting, placed above the marble fireplace, allowed visitors to explore a past and imaginative Roman countryside of the 18th century.
