ARE WALL-SITS EFFECTIVE? 🧐 First, let’s get one thing clear. Isometric Exercises are exercises that do not change the length of the muscle. You can think of these as “static holds” like a wall sit or plank. Isotonic exercises change lengths of the muscle. These are most of our traditional exercises in the gym. Our current literature tells us that isometrics are most analgesic (pain relieving) when using a protocol of 3-5 sets of 45-90 seconds at around 70-80% MVIC (this is a fancy way of saying it should be FREAKING hard) So are wall-sits effective? I think they can be! But, there are many people who may need more advanced isometric holds to make progress.
