did you know that the pelvic floor is directly linked to painful sex?? ➡️tone of your pelvic floor - Hypertonic pelvic floor is a condition where the muscles in your lower pelvis are in a spasm or state of constant contraction. This can be temporary or constant. When your pelvic floor muscles are in this state, they can’t relax and coordinate the control of certain bodily functions. This causes pain (either constant or with certain activities), problems with urination (peeing) and bowel movements (pooping) as well as sexual dysfunction and painful intercourse. This affects 1 in 10 people. that's a lot!! ➡️bloodflow - Many people carry stress in their pelvis, causing these muscles to always be tensed. A hypertonic pelvis is one of the most common causes of pain during sex, but it can also contribute to restricted blood flow and other issues relating to pelvic health, including constipation. ➡️posture - Bad posture can directly impact your pelvic floor. And the current need to stay at home and knock away at a laptop or relax in front of a TV isn’t doing us any favors! Good posture strengthens both your pelvic floor and other core muscles, improves flexibility to keep everything inside your abdomen and pelvic region in the right spot, and even helps with breathing. Bad posture, on the other hand, can lead to back pain and pelvic pain and in general is not good for any part of your body. ➡️hormones - Hormones are a “girl’s best friend”. All is fine until our hormones become off balance or we begin to have a decline in our sex hormones. While many talk about the side effects of hormones including bloating, weight gain, mood swings, and hot flashes, a less discussed topic is that of sex becoming uncomfortable or even painful. Symptoms of hypertonic pelvic floor usually develop slowly and get worse over time. It’s important to talk to your healthcare provider even if you have mild symptoms.
